This is an unusual situation in that I'm not used to 'blowing my own trumpet' - certainly not in print! So why do it here?
Maybe it's because I believe that, as this business is just myself (and my photos), I want people to have some view on who they are dealing with. In particular I'd like to give you an overview of my photographic background so that it becomes clear that the photos you will see on the site have been taken by someone with a passion for the subject and with the experience of many years of trial, error, criticism (not least from myself!) and disappointment. But then there are also those moments of pure pleasure having created an image which satisfies my artistic and technical ambitions.
As mentioned elsewhere, my photography has been strictly amateur until now and, as such, has been my main hobby for over 25 years. (My professional life has been in IT - but that's enough about that!). I believe that my photographs have a strong emphasis on composition (which is why I often use people in a landscape); bold colour (often the infamous splash of red!); and strong lines. I look to make architecture, structures, landscapes, still life into a graphic art-like product and if I can get a pun into the frame (even if just as the title) so much the better!
I emigrated from Tyneside to Scotland over 30 years ago and have been a member of Falkirk Camera Club for over twenty years - during which time I had the privilege of being its President for a couple of years - and I have had numerous successes in Club and Inter-club competitions. If nothing else it proves that I have a thick skin and/or a strange sense of humour to have survived the comments of judges (and club members!) over that time.
Outwith Falkirk, I have had photographs accepted for exhibition in the Edinburgh International Exhibition (as seen in Edinburgh's Festival Fringe), the Paisley International Exhibition, the Scottish Salon of Photography and the Photographic Alliance of Great Britain Print Exhibition.
I have had photographs published in the Scotsman, Glasgow Herald and Falkirk Herald newspapers as well as Photo Answers magazine.
Also, as part of the Falkirk Festival, I have had a one-man photographic exhibition (for which each photo had an accompanying poem provided by the local Writer's Circle).
So, hopefully, you will see that there are people out there who have enjoyed my work in the past and I trust that you will do likewise now. Please use my Contacts page to send me comments you may have on the site or the photographs. |
